Team Kenya LOVES D.C.!!!!

So... Team Kenya has made it safely to D.C. although our flight was delayed for two hours we were able to make it to our tour of D.C.  We were able to see so much in the little time we had... thanks too our amazing tour guide/bus driver Percy.  We all had so much fun and were so lucky too see all these amazing monuments.  After that we all dropped off our bags and now are at the premiere of Harry Potter... now how many people get to see the last HP at the premiere in D.C?  Not many.. we are definitely starting out our trip to Kenya with a bang!!!

Off to Kenya!!

Hey friends and family of Team Kenya!!!  We thought we would a shot out of what is going on and where we all our at the beginning of this HUGE adventure!!!

Steve, Bryce, Mykelle and Max at the end of the line... luckily everyone got to the airport on time because the line to check in was HUGE... we all met some interesting characters in that line!!

 So unfortunately our flight got a 2 hour delay so... we have had too wait.  So everyone decided to keep busy by catching up on sleep... any way possible.  Making bracelets, playing games, and eating!!!

So.. family and friends!!! We are on our way (well almost) the posts will keep coming!!!  One more hour till we are on our way!!!

2011 Kenya Kup raises $$ for small loans to impoverished women

This year the Kenya Kup Tournament was at The Homestead Golf Course in Midway, Utah.  We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather this year, without any rain. 

Their were ten teams for a total of 20 participants, along with the golf tournament itself we ran three other competitions, a long drive, long putt, and a closest to the pin.

A little about the day at Homestead, everyone was greeted by Jason Taylor.  As they checked in players had the opportunity to purchase tools to help improve their score.  Bubble tape and Mulligan Bracelets were some of the options.  In addition to the tools to help your score we did a raffle, prizes included dinner for two at the Zermatt Resort, Skull Candy Headphones, and gift cards to Costa Vida

The golf course was beautiful and posed some challenging holes and fast greens.  CPS on the carts helped the players dial in their games, and let each team know what place in the tournament they were in during their round.

The Micro-enterprise Group was able to meet their goal before going to Kenya this year.  Thanks to everyone's support and joint effort the Kenya Kup was a success.  And a HUGE thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and thanks to all the great companies for their donations.

Meet Jaclyn Bawden from the Kenya Team.

 

Hey Youthlincers, this is Meagan I am the blogger for the Kenya Team, I am here to introduce you to Jaclyn Bawden.  Jaclyn loves boating, especially at Lake Powell, she loves spending time with family and friends.  Jaclyn loves Reese's, Superman ice cream and loves Cafe Rio.  She want's to be a dental hygienist and wants to go to Africa because she knows it will be an amazing experience and she wants to help people here.

 

Scott visited Jaclyn Bawden’s service site this week which is Discovery Gateway.  Jaclyn goes down once or twice a week to volunteer in the play areas.  Her responsibilities are to clean and organize all the play areas and to play and interact with the kids who are there playing.

 There are several fun areas that the kids can play in.  For example, there is a grocery store where the children can pretend they are shopping or pretend they are the employees of the store. 

There are uniforms for them to put on and tons of play food.  There was the cutest little girl named Lucy there who was “in charge”.  She was the take charge checker and she kept us laughing the whole time.  She  knew all about the store and being a checker.  There is also a house, farm, construction site, and a water play area.  Upstairs is a theater area with costumes the kids can put on as well as areas to learn about the weather, broadcasting and even a real medical helicopter the kids can play in.  We had a great time helping the kids with whatever they needed as well as cleaning up all the toys.
